Adonia from Ciao Bella!

If you are looking for a healthier alternative to the usual ice cream, you should seriously try Ciao Bella’s latest products called Adonia. Adonia is Greek frozen yogurt. I have to admit, like usual, I was skeptical (noticing a pattern?) because I tried Greek yogurt and honestly hated it. My husband loved it, but he eats everything.

I have to say, Adonia Greek frozen yogurt is not at all like regular Greek yogurt. I found it to be so delicious, this could definitely replace any frozen treat I usually indulge in. Now, it is true I am a diabetic, but I admit, I sneak some ice cream in now and then and not the sugar free kind. While Adonia has sugar in it, it is also low in fat.

Here at our humble abode, we tried three flavors; Wild Blueberry, Raspberry and Mango. I really can’t tell you which was the favorite. Everyone liked all of them equally. Yes, they are that good!

The texture was smooth and creamy and the flavor was perfect and mouth-watering!

We were getting a little frustrated trying to find Adonia, the night we went on the hunt for it, though. It was not available at either store listed on the Ciao Bella Website. We actually had to go to 5 different stores to track it down. I would definitely suggest calling a store first to see if they carry it since it is so new. If your favorite retailer does not carry it, I would suggest asking them to. This is so good you don’t want to miss out!

Baked Apples-yummy goodness!

I made a post a couple days ago about my new apple baker from Emerson Creek Pottery. In it, I shared my baked apples, but not the recipe. Today, I will reveal how I made these delicious harvest delights!

You will need:

4 large sized , less sweet apples. I used the biggest granny smiths I could find

1/2 cup of flour

1 cup of oats-quick

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup white sugar or raw sugar

dash of ground cinnimon

2 tbsp vanilla extract

lemon juice

1 stick of butter

raisins if you like them

Caramel sauce

1. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees. Melt butter in microwave.while butter is melting, use an apple corer to remove core of apple-seeds and all. Coat inside of apple with lemon juice.

2. Mix together all dry ingredients (add a handful of raisins if you like them at this point) . Add wet ingredients(except lemon juice) slowly until a past is made. You may need to add more vanilla or butter to taste. Place hollowed out apples in a muffin tin or apple baker like I have.

3. Fill the insides of the apples with the mixture. Stuff it in tightly. Place apples in the oven and bake for approx 20 minutes. Keep an eye on it. They are done when the skin is slightly wrinkled looking and a fork pokes them and feels soft.

4. Allow to slightly cool and top with caramel sauce or vanilla bean ice cream if you desire.

Hair Chalk- Fun, temporary hair fashion!

My 9 year old daughter is such a fun little lady. She loves to be creative and she jumped at the chance to try HairChalk.

HairChalk is fun, temporary hair fashion for people of all ages. It is easy to apply and remove.

I was a bit nervous about whether it would show up on my daughter’s brunette hair, but it works great to add a bit of flair!

She recently got her hair cut short and this was just the ticket to jazz up her cute new style. Here she is before:

HairChalk is easy to apply. First, you wet the hair till it is damp in just the place where you want the color. This is best done with Hairspray.

Second, rub the HairChalk into the hair until the desired color is reached.

Last, Let the hair dry! I also found that to get an even color, if you use a fine tooth comb in the hair, it helps.

To remove, just shampoo out!

Look at the fun color it ads to hair!

My daughter loved the splash of color HairChalk added to her hair!

You can purchase HairChalk on the HairChalk website. There are many different color combos for any color of hair. We tried the “Warm” set.

Eitech America Solar contruction set

I love when learning and play come together nicely. With the Eitech Solar Construction kit, play and science meet. The toy allows the child to build several different toys from a windmill to helicopter that run on solar power. This not only allows for play, but a teaching moment between parent and child.

The toy is made in Germany, from high quality metal. It includes the solar motor, solar panel, over 300 pieces and tools. I have to say, there are a lot of little tiny pieces. This toy is definitely not intended for young children.

I think I may have been more excited to play with it than my daughter. Jaeda, who is 9, was curious, but when she saw how many pieces there were, she got a tad overwhelmed. I had her help me put it together by finding the pieces I needed. The book that came with the set was just pictures and offered no written instruction. At first, I was worried I may not be able to put it together, but I actually found it easy to understand just through pictures.

It took a little while, but we finally got it together. It was fun to work together as a team and make something really neat! We decided to make the car.

I loved how the construction set came with all the tools needed. No need to hunt around hubby’s toolbox! I also felt the quality was very high with this toy. Here is our little race car just before we added the solar panel:

The moment of truth came when we took it outside to see if it worked. Unfortunately, the day we built it, it was pretty overcast and it didn’t work very well. However, that didn’t stop us! We took it out again on a very sunny day and my daughter and I were super excited to see it go!

My daughter loves science and with all the talk about solar power, and some of our residents in our city adding the panels to their homes, this was the perfect way to not only talk about it, but demonstrate it!

The toy is recommended to ages 8 and up.

Chocolate Cake in a Mug!

Got a chocolate craving? Need a quick remedy? This “Chocolate Cake Mug” may be the ticket! This is easy to make, just about anyone can do it and you only need a few basic ingredients, a mug and a microwave!

You will need:

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar (I use Splenda because I am a diabetic)
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 5 tbsp water

To make, Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Then add the wet ingredients and stir until not lumpy and smooth.

Pop in microwave for 2 minutes-2 minutes 30 seconds. Watch out, it will get hot!

Top with ice cream or just some chocolate syrup. ENJOY!

Note that this will not have a “cake” texture, but more of a bread pudding type texture.

How to paint your nails fast and nice, every time!

It has been a while since I did a beauty tutorial. With the move to the new online home, I have been so busy playing catch-up!

One thing I get a lot of compliments on is my nails. I always get told they look so great and people ask me who does them and are usually surprised to find I do them myself.

Now, today, I am not wearing any acrylics and my nails are shorter than I like, but I wanted to show you all how I do them! Please bear with me as the closeups on my nails reveal my dry cuticles 😉

  • Make sure your nails are clean and dry. Remove any old polish.
  • Rub a bit of lotion on your hands and fingers. This will help keep nail polish from sticking. Make sure you use a cotton ball dipped in polish remover to get it off your nails though
  • Start at the base, near the cuticle and draw horizontally, very gently along the base of your nail. Gently roll the nail with your brush to glide the polish on.
  • Make a line from the middle, and draw upwards.
  • Fill in the sides with the same upwards stride.
  • Wait completely for first coat to dry. Then, apply second coat by making same vertical lines upwards. (the “bump” on the right side of my nail is actually a lighting issue, not a bulge of nail polish or anything)
  • To do a nifty design, I like to use skewer sticks. I know that is silly, but they have a nice pointy end and can allow you to make nice designs if you don’t have a nail art brush handy. Simply dip them into your polish color of choice, making sure to scrape off excess into bottle.
  • I made little clouds on my Essie “Bikini So Teeny” polish. I did this by making small dots and joining them together.

I hope this was helpful!

Quick,Easy Ways to re-use throw-aways!

I have been in a financial bind for a long time. This is good in the way that it helps me to be more frugal and creative! It is my passion to not let things go to waste!

I have found several ways to create wonderful, useful things from common throw-aways. I would like to share a couple with you, my readers!

Make a Watering Can from an old milk jug:

Super easy! Just poke some holes with a nail in the top of a milk jug’s cap and Voila! a watering can! Make the holes as big or as small as you want to control water flow.

Don’t throw away those grated cheese containers! instead make a carpet deodorizer! Just mix baking soda with a dry powdered spice of your choice like cinnamon or cloves. Sprinkle it on your carpets, vacuum and deodorize!

Use plastic pop bottles to make seed starter pots. Simply cut the bottoms off and poke holes in the bottom, fill with dirt and plant seeds.

Reuse coffee cans for cooking grease.

Do you buy bottled water? Use those bottles for lunchbox ice packs! Fill with water or koolaid, freeze and use to keep lunch cool. By the time lunch rolls around, it will be thawed and the food will still be cool.

Make your own Croutons with stale bread! Cut into squares, put in a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, add seasoning such as oregano, basil and pepper and gently toss. Bake on a cookie sheet at 325 degrees for 5-10 minutes until crispy. Use for casseroles and salads.

Reuse non-aresol hairspray bottles to make your own leave in conditioner. simply rinse out, add a bit of your favorite conditioner and water down. Spritz some on wet hair and go!

Make Garden markers out of used plastic silverware. Label them with a permanent marker and stick on soil.

I hope these tips have been helpful! What do you reuse in unique ways?

I love a good bargain and when one is attending college, you need all the help you can get when finding deals for school needs.

That is why I love CampusBookRentals.com !

Textbooks are a huge expense to most college students., I remember when I was attending, I was blown away by the cost of textbooks and I couldn’t understand since most of them were only used for one class for one semester. It seemed to me like there had to be some way to save money on the cost of textbooks and when I was in school, I couldn’t find a way to rent textbooks, but now there is!

There are some great benefits to renting with CampusBookRental.com. These include:

  • Savings! You can save 40-90% off textbook prices by renting!

I really wish I would have found CampusBookRentals.com when I was in college! They make it so easy to get the textbooks you need at an affordable rate! Check out the difference in price for a book I purchased when I was in school:

I paid close to $100 for this book at my College bookstore. I remember because I was blown away it was so expensive and it contains a test sheet inside.

Easy kid’s Craft!-Flower pot pens

My Daughter instructed me on how to do this one. She is very creative for a 9 year old. I am not sure where she got the idea, but this makes a great gift and decoration for a desk!

You will need:

  • Floral tape
  • Bik pens or similar
  • Small craft pebbles or beads
  • Fake flowers
  • Ribbon
  • Small Glass container

  1. Trim flower stems to be the length of the pens.
  2. Slowly wrap floral tape up the pens, attaching the flowers and them
  3. Tie ribbon around glass container for decoration
  4. Pour pebbles into glass container and stick flowers into them!

This would be fun for kids of all ages to do. Little ones will have fun pouring pebbles into containers and older kids will have fun making the flowers!

Broadway Nails imPRESS press-on Manicure

I love false nails. I am a nail-biter so it is hard for me to grow out my own natural nails.Since I don’t have the money very often to go get a set of acrylics put on, I rely on store bought nail kits.

Broadway nails has come out with a new line of products called imPRESS. The idea is that it is a press-on nail that will last up to a week.

I loved the packaging of this product. The nails came in a plastic “bottle” that looked like nail polish.

To apply, you peel back the tab, press it down and voila!

I did think they stayed on OK, not great, but the edges kept wanting to come up and stuff easily got stuck under them, unlike the glue on nails I have tried in the past.

I would say these would be good for a special occasion, but not really to go with everyday wear. This would be great for younger girls as well as they are not harsh on nails. They would also be good for those that work in an industry that doesn’t allow false of long nails on special occasions for day use. I do not find these very durable.

I did notice, even that largest size nail was too small for my thumb. To be fair, I do have larger hands, but I have never had a problem finding a fit in other kits.

I was given imPRESS to try from Influenster.com

To find out more about imPRESS and see the selection of colors and patterns available, go to www.impressmanicure.com
