A healthy update to an old favorite

If you are like me, you like a good old favorite: BLTs. I decided, in my quest for healthy upgrades to my favorite foods, to include an upgrade to my BLT.

This one makes a couple simple switch-a-roos and I promise, you won’t even notice :)

Healthier BLTs

  • Turkey Bacon, low sodium
  • Bread-wheat is best, but whatever kind will do
  • Fresh Spinach
  • Tomato
  • Veganaise

Start by cooking the turkey bacon on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper in your oven at 350 degrees F

While it is baking, (should only take 10 minutes or less) toast the bread & slice the tomatos.

On one side of the sandwhich, spread a light portion of Veganaise, on the other, your favorite mustard (Did you know regular mustard has NO calories and NO fat?)

Assemble the spinach, tomatoes and bacon on the sandwhich and you are done!

I am not sure exactly how many calories this saves, as I do not really track calories. I do know that spinach contains a lot more vitamins and minerals than iceberg lettuce, Veganaise has way less fat and calories and turkey bacon is a much healthier choice than pig bacon. Enjoy!
