Fresher, Cleaner Clothes with Purex’s Natural Elements!

One thing I love about detergents for cleaning is the awesome smell! I am the crazy lady in the store opening up the bottles sniffing each one and trying to decide which to pick. Purex’s Natural Elements offer me a great clean and a great “sniff”!

As someone who is forced to do my laundry at the laundry mat, I often have run into the problem of ending up with musty smelling clothes from tireless usage of the public washers. Purex’s Natural Elements left my clothing smelling amazing, with no musty smell and cleaned the toughest stains out of my husband’s work clothes. I was surprised by the way it was able to get the grease spots out of his work shirts and keep them bright and red as they should be!

What’s different about Purex’s Natural Elements?

Purex’s Natural Elements uses natural plant extracts to get that amazing scent. I tried the “Tropical Splash” (one of my favorite scents of all time!). Not only does it provide a great natural scent, but it is also good for sensitive skin. We have two sensitive skin people here; my daughter, who suffers from eczema flair-ups and my husband who has trouble with even deodorant. Neither one of them experienced a reaction after wearing clothing cleaned with Purex’s Natural Elements.

Great, but does it clean well?

Yes! As I said, it got the grease spots out of my husband’s work shirts and even cleared up some ketchup stains on my daughter’s shirt.

Spark of Amber teething Jewelry {Review +Giveaway}

As many of my readers know, I have let go of my pre-concieved notions of green and natural living this past year and part of that is examining what I could have done differently in the past. While I don’t plan on having any more little ones besides my wonderful 10 year old daughter, I do think this “new” (I say, “new” because it is newer to me!) idea of using Amber Teething Jewelry is an awesome idea!

Spark of Amber “Sunrise” Teething Necklace

I was happy to be sent a beautiful teething necklace from Spark Of Amber to review. In my research of these necklaces, I had to ask why they work and how they work. Amber has amazing pain relieving qualities that are natural and calming. This works because amber, specifically Baltic amber, contains succinic acid, a natural compound that soothes inflammation. It has been used for centuries to treat minor inflammatory pains.

You may be asking yourself the same question I did.

How is this SAFE for youngsters to wear a necklace ?!

The answer is simple. The amber teething jewelry at Spark Of Amber have a knot tied at each bead to ensure it is not a choking hazard and Baltic amber itself is non-toxic. It is however, recommended that you take the necklace off at night and instead lightly wrap it around the child’s ankle under footed PJ’s.

I love this beautiful piece of jewelry. I love that it is safe for young children and that each strand has a knot tied at each bead to ensure that. Spark Of Amber also has fast shipping and great customer service. The jewelry is absolutely stunning!

As I do not have a baby myself to try this on, I wore it as a bracelet. I suffer from inflammation in my body and absolutely noticed a sense of calmness and less pain than usual while wearing it. To be honest, this completely stunned me as I am a skeptic of all things!

Cons:

This needs to be watched with very young children. Please make sure you try to keep it out of your child’s mouth.

Verdict:

Absolutely recommended! The quality of Spark of Amber jewelry is amazing. I could tell it had quality construction and was very authentic.

Bullying is a huge problem. I remember when I was a child, I was bullied many times. I remember most of it taking place when I got a bit older, or maybe I blew off the things that happened to me as a child as just “normal kid’s stuff”. I now believe it is complacent to just blow off bullying behaviors as normal. Being rude, mean and even cruel is not and should not be taken as acceptable on any level.

My own daughter has struggled with bullying just about every year she has been in school in one way or another. I am always amazed at how far kids go out of their way to be cruel. Just recently, she struggled with kids on her bus bullying her. It made me so mad and sad at the same time that she struggles with this problem. I remember when I was pregnant with her and I would think to myself,”I hope this precious baby doesn’t get bullied the way I did in school. I hope she never has to know that kind of pain.” It broke my heart when it started happening to her. It makes a parent feel so lost. We spend 5 years protecting these precious babies and then we hope that as they get older and more independent, they will be able to protect themselves. My daughter struggles with being assertive, and is seriously concerned with not hurting other people’s feelings, so she used to not even “fight back” when kids would pick on her. Yes, this super loving child was worried the kids who were picking on her would get their feelings hurt if she stood up for herself.

I saw the documentary, “Bully”, and it broke my heart. I remember feeling the way some of those kids felt. My heart went out to their parents and the children themselves. Bullying can make you feel so low and so desperate to run away from it! Even now, as an adult, I still hear the hurtful words kids said to me echoing in my ears. I still have some struggles with the way I look and my self esteem. It is not something that ends when school is over.

I think one of the most important things we can teach our children is how to stand up for other kids who are being bullied. Not only does it empower the victim, who will know they are not alone, but it empowers your child, too!

Some ways you can teach your child to stand up for others who are being bullied according to girlshealth.gov:

Stand up for the victim. It takes a lot of courage, but try defending the person being bullied. This can shock and embarrass the bully so much that they leave their victim alone.
Don’t join in on bullying. If you see someone being bullied, don’t join in. If the bully tries to get you to help, refuse and walk away.
Stop the rumors. Don’t help spread rumors about another person. You wouldn’t want rumors spread about you, so don’t do it to someone else! If someone gossips to you, let it end with you – don’t pass it on to others. You can even tell that person you’re not interested.
Tell an adult. Don’t just stand there and watch, especially if someone is being hurt physically. Tell an adult about the bully and what’s going on. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe telling an adult, ask the adult to keep your comments private.
Offer help. When the bully is gone, try and help the person who was bullied and make sure he or she is okay. Encourage her to talk to an adult and stick up for herself.

Gorton’s Seafood Challenge {Giveaway!}

I was so excited to be included in the Gorton’s Seafood Challenge and be sent some awesome coupons to test them out in my own kitchen! What is the Gorton’s Seafood Challenge? It is a challenge set out by the Gorton’s Seafood crew to see what YOU can make with one of their 20 products under 200 calories! What do you win? One person will be lucky enough to win a year’s supply of Gortons!

What did I do for the Challenge? I made delicious and tangy fish tacos!

I wanted to share my recipe here so you can see for yourself how tasty and easy low calorie meals can truly be!

To make Tangy Fish Tacos, you will need:

2 Packages Gorton’s Cajun Grilled Alaska Pollock Fillets
A 1/2 a head of Cabbage
1 jar of low fat coleslaw dressing
1 tablespoon dried Chipotle powder
2 Limes
1 Pinch white pepper
Flour tortillas, fajita size
Tomatoes

1) To start, place your Gorton’s Cajun Grilled Alaska Pollock Filets in the pre-heated oven.

2) While your filets cook, wash cabbage and chop against the grain as you would for coleslaw. Set aside.

3) Slice one of the limes into wedges. These will be great as a side seasoning when the tacos are done. Slice the other in half.

4) Pour coleslaw dressing into a small bowl or container. Add the juice from one lime.

5) Add your chipotle powder. With a whisk, mix well.

6) Add your pinch of white pepper. Whisk together.

7) Dice your tomatoes.

8) Warm your tortillas on a non-stick skillet. Place them on a plate.

9) Pull your Gorton’s Cajun Grilled Alaska Pollock fillets out of the oven. With a spatula, break them up into chunks.

10) Add your Gorton’s Cajun Grilled Alaska Pollock fillet chunks to the Tortilla. Top with cabbage and tomatoes and add your tangy sauce on top! Enjoy! You could also add onions, cilantro and cheese if you like.

Jax Hats {Review + Giveaway}

If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you know that I fully support crafters and small business. I just love how items that are handmade just feel so wonderful to have and use.

Jax Hats are no exception. I first stumbled across Jax Hats a year or so ago at my local Saturday Market. I loved the style of them and the fact that they were not only handmade and local, but upcycled as well. Jax Hats are made from Upcycled sweaters and they are just wonderful!

Lately, my “color” has been lots of greys and browns. Jackie, who hand crafts Jax Hats made me a wonderful hat in grey and black. I have worn it many days in the still cold weather here in western Montana and not only does it keep my head warm, but it is so darn cute. I get compliments on it everywhere I go! I love that the band on the hat is made from t-shirts. It does an excellent job of keeping the hat comfortably in place!

Jax Hats also has a new line of infant and toddler gear as well. These hats make me wish I had a little one again because they just look absolutely darling on both little boys and girls.

The button that you see on the side of the hats are all hand-crafted as well. This hat is just so cute and fashionable, I am worried the warm weather may be coming too soon and I will have to retire my new favorite fashion accessory!

Pros:

These hats are hand made, high quality and they fit well. I love that they are made with upcycled materials and that the buttons on the sides are also home-crafted. You cannot find a better hat for anyone! These look great on women, children, teens, infants and even men!

Cons:

They can be a bit pricier than some people can afford compared to retail prices, but for quality this good, it is more than worth it in my opinion, because after all, these are not mass produced and you are supporting a great independent craft business.

Verdict:

Everyone needs a hat like this! I highly recommend these hats!

Not only are the prices competitive, even cheaper in a lot of cases, but you get FREE shipping. They came with install instructions and they were good to go in just minutes.

Pros:

Cons:
