The Compliment Quotient {Review}

Everyone loves a good compliment. Not only can it lift you up on a bad day, but even help you push farther to achieve success!

Did you ever notice that with children, if you tell them how good they are doing at something, it often pushes them to continue to try harder and keep doing it? This is not just for kids! Have you ever worked for someone that let you know how well you were doing and how much you were appreciated? It helped you feel good about your abilities and pushed you to work harder, didn’t it?

On that same token, have you ever worked for someone who never told you what you were good at, never patted you on the back and never said anything good about you and your abilities? It not only drags you down, but leave you feeling confused and like giving up.

Compliments are incredibly powerful!

One way to help yourself feel better, especially if you are not getting the attention you think you deserve (which, sadly, often happens and leave us feeling unappreciated) is to make sure YOU are the one giving yourself compliments! Have you ever heard the saying, “Tell yourself something until it is true?” It works! I used to feel incredibly bad about who I was. I would hate what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I started by placing a note to myself in the bathroom that gave me encouragement that I was alright just the way I am. It was a Bible verse. It soon became true for me. I now see myself as wonderful and just the way I am supposed to be, most of the time. I still have my bad days, but at least the good ones far outweigh the bad.

One tool I tested out was from a company from the Compliment Quotient. They make these two nifty products; “Compliment Charms” and “Daily Compliment Cards”. I was very happy a representative from The Compliment Quotient sent me a sweet charm necklace that reads, “You are Amazing” and a set of Daily Compliment Cards.

100_3679

Pros:

These really are an amazing concept. It was funny because I decided to wear the Compliment Charm on a day I was feeling less than confident. Just looking down and seeing “You are Amazing” around my neck really reminded me of the Bible verse I used to keep on my bathroom mirror. (Which by the way is by the way Luke 12:7 and it reads “..Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”)

Cons:

I was kind of let down by the Daily Compliment Cards. The phrases on many of them seemed like those stickers little kids get on their A+ papers. To me, they were too cheesy. I can see how they may be good for a child to have on their desk at home or something, but they were not personally my taste and I did not find much inspiration in them. Maybe it was more the kind of pictures on them or something, but they really seemed a bit simple and kind of un-adult-like.

Verdict:

The Compliment Quotient is all about making you feel better and the world a more positive place. I would highly recommend checking out their store and website. There are many more Charms to choose from.

Head on over to The Compliment Quotient’s page, The Appreciation Advantage, and click on “Store”. Charms sell for $13.95.

Bau Del Aire 2 in 1 Oil Absorbing Primer and Mask {Review}

I have combination skin and this can often cause me issues with blemishes. My cheeks are often dried out and they get blemishes on them in dry patches and in my “T-Zone” I get oily blemishes. My forehead and chin almost always look shiny and this annoys me quite a bit. I was happy to test out Bau Del Air’s 2 in 1 Primer and Mask* to see if it could help me in my oily areas.

Bau Del Aire

The Bau Del Air 2 in 1 product contains no parabens, color, oil, silicone or fragrance and is not tested on animals.

To use, the instructions say to apply over the face, sparingly, and it will absorb oil. I was not able to use it in this manner and I will explain why in a moment.

Bau Del Aire contains sea water so I assume this is why it is able to soak up oil.

Pros:

I did like that it was not tested on animals and had absolutely no scent so it would be great for those that prefer to not have heavily scented products.

Cons:

The bottle is extremely difficult to use to begin with. It has a pump feature that is plugged with a rubber/silicone like substance for what I assume is there to keep it from spilling during shipping. I had to really work it out for about 10 minutes with various objects before I could even get it to work. When I finally got it open, I only got a very liquidy substance that was a milky water like consistency. I shook the bottle gently, thinking maybe it needed to be shaken before use (The bottle offers no instructions to do so) to get the correct consistency. When I shook it, a great deal of it flew out everywhere. I was unable to use the pump at all, really, and the little bit I did get out had hard chunks in it, the kind you would see in an old product. I did not get enough out to apply to my face. This was a huge disappointment. I would hope it was just an error in manufacturing of the bottle/pump, but even after shaking, the product did not look any better. I did try to use it as a spot treatment on a blemish and saw no specific results.

100_3683

The consistency I kept getting when I used it.

Verdict:

I would not recommend this product. As stated, I did use it as a spot treatment for a blemish and saw no specific results after trying it for 4 days.

To Purchase:

If you still want to give it a try on your own, check out the Bau Del Aire site. It retails for $18.00

Teacher Peach {Review}

Teachers are extremely valuable and unfortunately, in many cases, they do not get the recognition they deserve. Teacher Peach is a nifty website designed to get little, low cost gifts that Teachers would love to show a good teacher how much you appreciate them! Not only that, but if you are a teacher, yourself, you will find tons of awesome products just for you to make your day easier! There are some great items on there that would fit right in with a homeschooling mom!

I was sent a couple items to review including the Quench Tumbler and the Travel 7 in 1 case.

The Quench tumber is the popular style of tumblers with the plastic straw that you see everywhere these days. I am not a teacher, but I do drink fluids at work and it is a requirement for me to have a reuseable cup with a lid to keep them in. I took this Quench Tumber for the test!

The Travel 7 in 1 case holds all the essentials including stapler, staples, paper clips, Stickie notes, rubber bands, a hole puncher, and a tape dispenser. Everything that would be great to have on the go! The case snaps tight to hold it all neatly in place.

100_3524

100_3525

Pros:

The Travel 7 in 1 case was very handy to have as I was helping my husband get his resumes together during his job hunting. We made copies at the local copy shop and this neat little case fit right in my purse!

Cons:

The quench tumbler cracked a bit on the rim when I washed it the first time. I also noticed this created a lose seal and water got in between the layers of the cup. I tried to let it dry and fix this issue, but two days later, there was still water in it and it created condensation in between the layers. I would recommend to avoid this by not immersing it in water and being gentle with the lid when putting it on and off. Overall, I didn’t find it as durable as I had hoped.

Verdict:

Teacher Peach has a lot of amazing products at very reasonable prices. The Travel 7 in 1 Case is only $5.95. I would not recommend the Quench Tumbler though if you are hoping for a lot of durability.

To Purchase:

Visit Teacher Peach and check out their nifty products for teachers (and many for moms!).

Earth Balance Snacks {Review}

One of my goals this year is to eat healthier. This is especially hard in the snack department. I love my crunchy chips. One thing I have always loved is popcorn, though as well. It is easy to turn popcorn into a snack that is very unhealthy, and I often do, by adding tons of butter and salt!

Earth Balance Snacks has helped me see that a popcorn snack can be better for you and taste delicious as well!

100_3608

Earth Balance snacks are popcorn snacks that come is delicious varieties such as Vegan Aged White Cheddar, Vegan Butter flavor, Vegan Aged White Cheddar Puffs and PB Popps.

100_3609

PB Popps

Earth Balance is all about having a plant based diet. I normally do not like many vegan things (besides this wonderful blueberry bread from this local bakery here!) and I was initially hesitant, but these snacks from Earth Balance blew me out of the water!

Pros:

I loved the PB Popps flavor, a peanut butter covered popcorn that is light, yet very full in flavor. I also enjoyed the great taste of the Vegan Aged White Cheddar Puffs. They reminded me of another favorite snack I love that uses “real” cheddar, and I loved that these were plant based and tasted just as authentic as real cheddar. The Vegan Butter Flavor was also very good. I love that these snacks are not only plant based, but also non-GMO and gluten free!

Cons:

For some reason, the Vegan Aged White Cheddar popcorn had a funny after taste to me. It was kind of a bitter taste that lingered long after I was done with the snack.

Verdict:

These snacks are so taste friendly (other than the bitter Aged White Cheddar Popcorn) you would not even know they are vegan or gluten free! I recommend these for anyone looking for a healthier vegan/gluten free snack!

To purchase:

Use the store finder on the bottom right hand side of the Earth Balance page. There were several stores in my area that carried them.

Uncle Matt’s Organic Juice {Review}

With organic products taking over the stores, it is hard to understand why you should purchase organic and what products are really “worth it”.

I used to wonder the same thing as organic foods are often more pricey and you don’t know why you should be buying organic in the first place.

There are a few reasons to buy organic and when I tried Uncle Matt’s Organic orange juice, I could really taste the difference! First off, Uncle Matt’s is organic because it is better for the planet to organically farm. Organic farming uses no pesticides or other hazardous chemicals like mass production farming. Using organic farming techniques is better for the environment because it protects the air we breathe and the water we drink. When you choose organic farmed food, you don’t have to ask,”What am I REALLY eating?”

100_3655

I love that on the Uncle Matt’s Website, you can find out exactly who is growing your food. You can even take a virtual “grove tour”!

Uncle Matt’s Organic Juice produced not only the Pulp Free Orange Juice that we tried, but also apple juice, lemonade and grapefruit juice and other orange juice varieties such as Calcium added, and with pulp.

  • Pros:

I love this juice. I have never actually bought organic varieties of orange juice because I am not really a fan of orange juice to begin with. This juice tastes so close to biting into a juicy orange, I may have found a brand of OJ that I love. My husband said the Pulp free variety we tried had a great “Smooth natural orange taste”.

  • Cons:

The price is a bit steep here. I could only find it in stock in one store (this must be a good indicator of it’s quality!) locally and it was nearly $8.00 for the 59 oz bottle we tried. However, keep in mind this is 100% organic juice, though.

  • Verdict:

For my morning cup of juice, I would recommend this brand. I love the taste and I love how the company is so transparent in their website’s info on where the juice comes from.

  • To purchase:

Head over to the store locator and check out where you can get it locally. As I stated, it was around $8.00 for 59 oz here.

Nature’s Sleep Slippers {Review}

With a cold floor and an empty, unfinished basement right below me, slippers are a must here in the winter!

I was sent a pair of Nature’s Sleep slippers to review. I chose a pair my husband would like because, truthfully, I have a love affair with slippers and own too many.

100_3637

Nature’s Sleep slippers are made with memory foam and although we have both owned memory foam slippers in the past, these are a bit different in that they are higher quality. Nature’s Sleep memory foam slippers offer your tired, cold feet just the right support with Nature’s Sleep’s own Next Generation memory foam that keeps your feet cool as to not overheat and they stay comfortable at the same time.

Nature’s Sleep memory foam slippers come in an attractive open or closed toe style and they are made for both men and women. I reviewed the closed-toe style.

Pros:

These slippers exceeded both our expectations in both comfort and quality. In the past, when we have purchased other brands of memory foam slippers, they memory foam stops “puffing” back up and supporting feet. In other words, it goes flat very quickly. These have been worn for a while now and still feel just as firm as they did when we got them new out of the package. They are also super soft and keep feet warm. I also loved the non-slip bottom on them. They are great on my slippery floors and for a quick run outside to get the mail.

Cons:

Neither of us liked the style of the slippers. My husband described them as almost “granny-ish”.

Verdict:

If you are looking for a quality memory foam slipper, this is definitely it.

To Purchase:

Check out Nature’s Sleep to purchase the slippers. There are several colors to choose from. They sell for $30.00. Nature’s Sleep also sells memory foam pillows, mattresses, toppers, and even pet beds.

Twiztt Cook Wear By Joan Lunden {Review}

It is no secret that I love to cook. Now, if you ask me to bake for you, that’s another story. For whatever reason, it is not one of my fortes.

One thing I loved about going to culinary arts school was all the awesome cooking equipment they had in class and I used to dream of having amazing cook wear like that at home.

100_3623

Quality pans can cost a little more than the cheaper variety, and trust me, they are worth it. With the new Twiztt line from Joan Lunden, you can have quality pans with awesome new technology (like the Thermolon™ coating!) for a very reasonable price!

Twiztt was developed because Joan wanted a line of cook-wear that could help her eat healthier. As many people know, Joan is a shining example of a hard working woman. Not only has she been in national news programs, but she also has a line of home decor and even skin care products!

100_3628

The Twiztt pan I was sent is an 8 inch pan with a Thermolon™ coating. The coating helps food not only non-stick, but also helps distribute heat evenly. Unlike other non-stick surfaces, it does not have a toxic release of fumes when heated to high temperatures. The Twiztt pan I reviewed also comes in 10 and 12 inch sizes. The pan is also oven safe.

100_3624

Check out how well it did sauteing chicken!

Pros:

Does an excellent job at keeping foods non-stick. I loved that I did not have to use and fats, oils or butters to saute in my pan as I normally would. You can use them if you want, but with most foods, even meats it is not necessary. The non-stick Thermolon™ coating was incredibly easy to clean. The pan heated very evenly.

Cons:

This pan cannot be cleaned in a dishwasher as hand washing is recommended. For me, this is not an issue because I hand wash everything, but for some this may be an inconvenience.

Verdict:

I absolutely recommend this pan in the Twiztt line of products. Make sure you also check out the other products in the Twiztt line such as cutting boards, oven wear and bowls.

To purchase:

For sale at most Bed, Bath and Beyond locations or check here to find a retailer near you. The 8 inch pan I reviewed was marked at $29.95.

The Skin Regime-Boot Camp For Beautiful Skin

I have been blessed with pretty great skin in my youth, but as I hit into my 30′s I noticed some skin issues that did not make me very happy. I used to have even skin tone and hardly any blemishes, unless it was “that time of the month” and even then, it was maybe 1 single pimple. I used to get compliments on my “flawless skin” and even skin tone.

What I started noticing was the breakouts were happening more often, my skin started to have blotchiness, and it was not as smooth as it once was. I scoured websites looking for was to make my skin behave again and found all sorts of conflicting info. Why does my skin hate me now?

100_3514

I was happy to review the book by Dana Ramos, “The Skin Regime: Boot Camp For Beautiful Skin”. Dana also sent me a peel to try out as well from her skin care collection. I have not had too much experience with peels or masks as I have mostly had no skin issues all my life, other than the occasional acne or oily spots and was relieved when it came with step by step information on how to prepare my skin for the peel and how to treat it post-peel. Unfortunately, my camera was on the fritz when I did the peel, so I was unable to get a good picture of a before and after, but let me say, I loved how clean my skin felt. It was literally like a weight was lifted off my face. I felt cleaner than any other product had ever made me feel. I also noticed it didn’t dry me out the way I thought it might. It was such a luxurious feeling, and so very refreshing!

The book, “The Skin Regime: Boot Camp For Beautiful Skin” was so wonderful to read. Dana has an amazing way of explaining things and relating to people. I was surprised by some of the tips for healthy skin I had not really considered. It also goes into every detail about what products to use and how to create new skin from head to toe! I loved that there was even some tips for healthier hair and those dry spots we all have- mine are my elbows.

What I loved most about the book was it was all-inclusive. It talks about how to not just keep acne at bay, but how to make your skin have that healthy glow and even what kinds of ingredients to look for in makeup. I really loved how the book wasn’t like many books about skin care. It talked to people of all ages (not just teenagers and not just those with aging issues) and varying levels of skin problems.

I highly suggest all women check out this book and the other products on Dana’s website as there is so much information that is valuable no matter your skin issues. Create new skin with Dana Ramos’ book and peels!

Blu E-cig Starter Kit {Review}

I mentioned a while back one of my goals for the New year was to quit smoking. I know, I know, smoking is a gross habit and it may come as a shock to you that I smoke, but it is one thing I am most ashamed of, trust me.

For me, smoking is much more than the nicotine. If you are a smoker or former smoker, you might be able to relate to me. It is the inhaling, the exhaling, the habit, the social aspect and the actual physical feeling of having the cigarette to your mouth. It has been my crutch for a long time. I decided to try the e-cig route as I found it helpful in the past.

I got a Blu Starter kit from e-cigarettes 365 ( a website that not only helps you pick from lots of different brands for purchase, but also gives you reviews by real customers, like me, so that is why I chose this site to get my kit from) to test out and review for you. I was so excited because in the past, my husband and I had wanted to try this kit because we had such a positive experience with the disposable Blu brand e-cigs in our last quit attempt. Trust me, we tried lots of different ones and the Blu was by far the best for many reasons I will get into in a bit. First, I want to talk about what comes with the kit.

100_3585

In the Blu e-cig starter kit (which by the way, you can get in white as well as the black one we chose), you get 2 batteries, 1 Blu pack, 1 wall charger, 1 USB charger and 1 variety pack of cartridge flavors that contains 4 different 5 flavors in a 5 pack. The flavors included in the kit are; tobacco x2, cherry, java, and menthol.

The rechargeable e-cig from Blu works by charging the battery, and simply screwing on a cartridge and taking a puff. There are cartridges sold without nicotine and there are varying levels of nicotine as well in 8 mg, 12 mg and 16 mg. I personally think that is awesome that there are varying levels of nicotine. This will make it much easier to quit as I can wean myself off. Last time we used e-cigs to quit smoking traditional ones, I was able to almost not even need it at all after 2-3 weeks.

The Blu e-cig starter kit also uses a unique feature: the Blu Pack. Simply charge the pack itself and place your “dead” battery in it for charging on the go. you can also store your cartridges in it all in one place. It has a feature that is a “social feature” that is supposed to tell you by lighting up with a blue light on the side of the pack when you are near someone else that has a Blu pack.

100_3586

Pros:

This is the ultimate kit to get if you are interested in trying e-cigs. My husband and I have an e-cig kit from another company and this one is by far the best because of it’s smoothness in draw, the lasting time of the cartridges (about 250 puffs or a little over 1 pack per cartridge), the fact that it has no chemical-like taste as other tend to, and the convenience of being able to charge virtually anywhere because it has a wall charger and a USB charger. The Charge time is very fast. In just under 10-15 minutes, you have a fully charged battery. I also like that it has the Blue pack included for on the go continuous charging. The flavors of the cartridges are not over powering at all. I was worried I would not like the menthol one because I don’t like traditional menthol cigarettes, but this one was just a hint of mint flavor. My husband really enjoyed the Java flavor. The quality of the Blu e-cig starter kit cannot be surpassed in my opinion.

Cons:

You must remember to keep your Blu pack and batteries charged. I found that they don’t hold a charge for more than a day or so, so it is crucial to remember to keep them in the Blu pack if you want one ready to go at all times. I also found the “social feature” of the Blu pack a bit silly and I had no way of knowing if it works or not because it never lit up for me.

Verdict:

This is well worth the price as it has so many features other kits do not have and way more pros than cons. Skip experimenting with other brands and go straight to the Blu.

To Purchase:

Head over to E-Cigarettes 365 and purchase a Blu Starter Kit for $69.95-$79.95. I personally recommend this website on my own because it has a lot of great review info.
