As many of my readers know, I have type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a disease that many see as “the end” to eating foods the patient enjoys. For me, this is so far from the truth, but I admit, I do sometimes over indulge in foods I need to watch.
One of the reasons I struggle is because I have a hard time with portion control. I love fruit, for instance, and it is so easy to give in and make excuses because I tell myself it’s OK since it is healthy. Fruit is healthy, but it is also full of fructose, a natural sugar. As you may know, diabetics need to keep an eye on their blood sugar levels, so over-indulging in fruit is a no-no.
This is one of the reasons I was THRILLED to review the Nutrition Pro food scale by EatSmart products. Not only will it help me with portion control, but it will show me exactly how many carbohydrates are in a food I am about to indulge in.
The Nutrition Pro comes with a booklet on healthy eating as well as a code book.
The Nutrition Pro works very simply.
First, you turn the scale on and if desired, turn the back light on.
Second, place your plate or bowl on the scale and use the “tare” function. Tare will take the weight of the bowl or plate off the measurements and allow you to measure just the food.
Next, you will add your food and put in the food code (found in the book) I am eating cherries since it is cherry season here in Montana and I love to eat them in the summer. They make a great snack!
As you can see, with the Nutrition Pro scale, it makes it easy to see that I am sticking in my Carbohydrate counts for snacks and meals. My Doctor recommends I stay around 15 Carbohydrates for a snack and 35-40 for a meal. I was easily able to keep my cherry treat in the “safe zone”. It just took moments!
Th Nutrition Pro scale by EatSmart is very high quality and measures up to 11 pounds. It is not only a scale, but also a nutrition calculator and has the ability to store 99 entries for tracking. The Nutrition Pro scale also features and easy to clean tempered glass top.
