How to Get Rid of Instant Pot Ring Odor

How to Get Rid of Instant Pot Ring Odor- My one and only complaint- ring odor! Here's how you can get rid of Instant Pot ring odor if you deal with it, too!

When I got my instant Pot a few months ago and started using it on a regular basis almost immediately, I very quickly learned that the silicone ring on the inside of the lid responsible for the sealing that happens with the appliance picks up any and every odor. I had made the mistake of making something very heavy curried and I could not figure out how I was going to get the smell out and further, would it effect other things I make? ( the good news is the smell doesn’t effect other foods cooked, but it can start to become a pretty pungent odor.) I tried washing it in hot, soapy water and it was still there. Then, through trial and error, I found a few things that worked, so here are my tips on how to get rid of Instant Pot Ring Odor.

Prevention is better than taking action when the problem exists, and I have found that keeping the ring exposed to fresh air (via keeping the lid upside down in storage or hanging the ring) also helps keep it aired out. But if you do find yourself with odor in your Instant Pot Ring, try these tips:

First, soak the ring in a hot soapy water and clean it to remove any food on it after cooking.

Next, Make a paste of baking soda and water and give it a good scrub with that.

Finally, place it in your dishwasher, on the top rack and run it through. If you want, and if it’s practical, you can place it in the sun to further remove some odor that remains in some cases.

Another way to remove super savory odors, I have found, is to simply cook white rice in it, however it does leave a mild rice odor then. This one I happened on by accident. It has to be plain rice, but it does work.

To save myself time in a rush, I bought an additional Instant Pot ring. I use one for super savory foods and meats and the other for more bland or sweet foods. This way, I don’t have to worry about being super thorough about my cleaning. Keep in mind, though, you will have to replace your rings at a certain point anyway, so buy a couple while you are at it since I frequently see them sold out.

I hope these tips help! Do you have any ways you have found that help?
