In days of past, men used to use shave soap instead of the modern shave cream. I had no idea what the difference is, mostly because I don’t shave my face. However, my husband said there was a huge difference. He told me that shave soap was better at moisturizing than the gel or cream.

He tried the shave soap from ManCave Soapworks in the scent “James Musk” and loved it. In order to use shave soap, he needed a brush and I found one online, but ManCave Soapworks sells awesome full sets as well.

Using shave soap is as simple as wetting the brush and working it into a lather. I would suggest putting the soap into a ramekin so it doesn’t slide around. It is easier to work it into a lather.

After you have a nice lather going on, apply to face and shave as usual. My husband’s suggestion is to make sure you wet your face well with hot water. This helps soften the skin and hair and makes shaving easier. Using a shave soap does take some getting used to, but it is just as easy as the gel sold in cans once you get used to it. My husband’s only complaint about the shave soap was that it took a while to work into a good lather. He did say that it had been a while since he had used a shave soap, though to be fair.

I loved the smooth, silky feeling it left on his face and of course, I loved the awesome scent. It was a very masculine scent and was not overpowering at all. My husband said it moisturized so well, he didn’t even need an aftershave.
