Getting down from time to time is normal. Life takes a toll on your body, mind, and spirit. Even when everything seems to be going great, you may not feel like you’re in the best mood. Although it is important to always talk to your doctor when you just can’t get out of a current funk, there are natural ways to boost your mood before going down that path. Here are a few natural ways to boost your mood.

Natural Ways to Boost Your Mood

Exercise: You hear this all the time, but exercise really has a way of increasing the serotonin in your body which is the hormone that makes you feel happy. Even if it is just 5-minutes a few days a week, try to get some exercise into your routine to help boost your mood.

Meditate: Meditation isn’t just a spiritual act. It calms your body and helps to increase your mood. In fact, there are many YouTube videos that guide you through meditation to boost your mood and make you feel better. Go do something with others: I was in a crappy mood. Life seemed to be spinning out of control. My friends wanted me to go to Goodwill and get coffee. Doing something with them was the last thing on my mind, but by the time I got home, I was feeling a lot better. It has been scientifically proven that friends boost your mood, so get out there and have some BFF time.

Take Vitamins: Even if you eat healthy, food doesn’t always supply you with the needed vitamins and minerals essential to keep your body happy and healthy. If your body is deficient in vitamin D, Vitamin B-12, Magnesium, Amino Acids, Iron, Iodine, or Selenium, it could cause depression. Take a multi-vitamin everyday to be sure you are getting these needed vitamins and minerals to boost your mood. I really love looking for GMO free multivitamins because I feel the best about them.

Talk Positively: It is easy to get in a rut of talking about all the bad that is going on, but the more you talk about it, the more you attract. Talk positively about yourself, others, and the situations around you and see if things don’t start to look up.

Get Outdoors and Get some Sun: It is vital for me to get outdoors and experience some nature. I enjoy hiking and being in the woods, but if you don’t there are still ways to get outside. Try to do something that can help you decompress. Bring your partner or a friend along and do something together. If you aren’t feeling social, I bet your pupper would love to go for a walk.

Check some things off your list: When I need to boost my mood, it’s often when I feel overwhelmed with life. I feel much better when I can check some things off my to-do list that I keep on my tablet and phone. If you find you have extra time, instead of feeling down, why not get some stuff done? The feeling of accomplishment can be a great mood booster.

It can be tough to want to do anything when you aren’t feeling like yourself. Keep your head up! You are beautiful, intelligent, and YOU CAN get through this! If you are experiencing depression, don’t be afraid to reach out for help from a licensed therapist. Find a therapist that works in your area here.
