I have two teen girls that mean an awful lot to me. One is my amazing 13 year old daughter that doesn’t live with me full time and the other is my 16 year old stepdaughter that lives here full time. My stepdaughter came to live with us just a little over a year ago and although we have had some bumps in the road, she has really blossomed and I look forward to watch what else she has coming her way as she grows and changes.
I remember one year, when I was a teenager, my mom bought me a very special book for Christmas called Mothers and Daughters. Inside the cover, she wrote me a short letter that still brings me to tears when I read it. I still have this book and I know it not only helped me feel loved, but when I miss her, I can read her words of encouragement and even at 34 years old, I feel lie I can still fulfill my dreams with her cheering me on. It’s amazing how words can really build you up over and over.
How my Teen Inspires Me
Yoplait challenged me to find a way to connect with my teens here and tell them why they inspire me. Since Charlotte, my stepdaughter is here currently, I decided to write her a letter. I hadn’t read it to her until this video was taken and so her reaction is first hand. I sometimes feel like all I ever do is come down on her, as I do with my own daughter and I am trying to change to a softer, more nurturing version of myself, not only for these wonderful girls we are raising, but for myself as well. This letter inspired by #YoplaitGoBig line of yogurt pouches and their chance for you to nominate your teen as an “Amazing Teen” for a chance to win $3,000 on Yoplait Go Big Facebook Page.
Think about it; Today’s teen does things many of us can’t even do! I may run a website, but I can’t do coding the way some teens can. My stepdaughter and daughter had to even show me how to use Snapchat for crying out loud! Charlotte is amazing with kids and dreams of becoming a special education teacher and my daughter Jaeda is a wonderful artist and enjoys doing special effect makeup. Teens who are truly crushing it are always on the go, so a snack like Go Big is perfect- It’s portable and has a fun large Rip n Grip package, ‘a good source of calcium’, contains no high fructose corn syrup, contains real fruit and I love that the dairy is Kosher. Give your teen the fuel they need to dream big with Yoplait Go Big and don’t forget to nominate them!
Are you going to nominate your teen and write them a letter?
Talented young ladies. Lovely to write a letter to show them how special they are.
